• New user interface (UI) for the ZIMS application
• Built on the core ZIMS platform, ZIMS 2012 enhances the way users interact with many of the screens and processes in the application, including:
- The ability to open multiple tabs and navigate between them, giving users the
ability to perform multiple operations (e.g. information search and taxonomy)
- Less screens to perform basic tasks (e.g. accessions in one screen!)
- Increased speed!
- The ability to "undo" mistakes
- More browser compatibility, including Firefox, Chrome and more
- (ZIMS is currently developed for optimum performance only with Internet Explorer)
In addition, the new interface allows ISIS to make some fundamental changes
in the ZIMS business rules, which have caused some initial frustrations with the
current process of migrating data from ARKS to the ZIMS database.

Quotes from our members who are using ZIMS 2012
“I must say, I'm impressed with the amount of redesign you all have done. The new format takes a little getting used to as it so different from previous versions, but my first impressions are very good.”
-- Stuart Clausen, Senior Aquarist, Oregon Coast Aquarium
"Just wanted to say I took a quick look at the latest demo -- specifically at the taxonomy search, and I LOVE it! One of my complaints about the current taxonomy search is that it it very difficult to find what family a certain species is in...But the way it is in ZIMS 2012 makes that MUCH easier."
"... let me say that it is AWESOME that [the enclosure] report is finally available! Other than that, looks great so far! I like the design of the report better than the ARKS enclosure report. Once it is sorted by taxon it will be super great!"
-- Mary Noell, Registrar, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden
"I love ZIMS 2012, and now I’m busy entering all the things I’d been saving for it! It is so much easier!"
– Anne Fletcher Jones, The Living Desert
"I hope you will share this with everyone involved with the development of ZIMS 2012 – it really is great to work with. I haven't been working with it very long (this is my third day), and basically just doing animal data entry, but it is fast, and pretty much self-explanatory. And although I thought the improvements that were made to the original ZIMS were great -- this is a lot better."
"I can't tell you how much easier the ZIMS 2012 is to work with, thanks for the good work."
– Joan Ryskamp, Zoo Registrar, John Ball Zoological Garden
" Congratulations on the new ZIMS – it is so much faster and the keepers are finding it a lot easier to use."
-- Pat Milham, Twycross Zoo
