Is MedARKS Year 2000 Compliant?
In terms of data storage, analysis and record retrieval, MedARKS 5 has always been Y2K compliant. The year in all dates are stored as the full 4 digits, even though only the last 2 digits of the year were required for data entry with early versions of the program. Version 5.30o of MedARKS was released in January 1999 and it allows for entry of all 4 digits of the year. If you enter only the last 2 digits of the year, the program will assume that the century is the same as the current century indicated by the system date of your computer. This will allow you to continue to enter just 99 for the remainder of 1999 and just 00 starting in 2000. The only time that you will actually need to enter all 4 digits of the year would be if you were entering 20th century (historical) records after 1 January 2000 or when scheduling items for beyond 31 December 1999 at anytime during 1999. However, since MedARKS does rely on the current system date of your computer to get the correct century, any problems with Y2K compliance of the computer system date will interfere with the normal function of MedARKS.
In some places, switching to a 4-digit entry for the year impacted the screen layout, but we believe that all these display problems have been fixed. If you notice any places on the screen where the last 2 digits of a date write over existing material on the screen, please report the problem to MedARKS Technical Support.
