ZIMS 2012- the next generation of ISIS Software
The Zoological Information Management System.
• New user interface (UI) for the ZIMS application
• Built on the core ZIMS platform, ZIMS 2012 enhancements will change the way
users interact with many of the screens and processes in the application, including:
◦The ability to open multiple tabs and navigate between them, giving users the
ability to perform multiple operations (e.g. information search and taxonomy)
◦Less screens to perform basic tasks (e.g. accessions in one screen!)
◦Increased speed!
◦The ability to "undo" mistakes
◦More browser compatibility, including Firefox, Chrome and more
◦(ZIMS is currently developed for optimum performance only with Internet Explorer)
In addition, the new interface allows ISIS to make some fundamental changes
in the ZIMS business rules, which have caused some initial frustrations with the
current process of migrating data from ARKS to the ZIMS database.
